Yantian is located in the southeast of Shenzhen City. The marriage customs of the Tanka people (fishermen) in Yantian originated from the Yanliaoxia Fishermen Village in Shatoujiao, Yantian, and have a history of 160 years. The fishermen in Yantian have lived on the sea since ancient times, forming different marriage customs from those of the land people. The ceremonies of engagement, wedding reception, and bridal chamber are all held on the boat. As the fishermen gradually moved to the shore, the marriage customs have changed. So far, a diversified marriage custom has been formed that retains the traditions on the boat and has the content of the land wedding. A custom dance for the wedding reception of fishermen has been formed, that is, the wedding reception team imitates the sailing on the sea and paddles and dances on land. Such customs are prevalent in Yantian District and Longgang District, as well as the seaside area of Shatoujiao in the New Territories of Hong Kong. The marriage customs of the Tanka people in Yantian are an evolving marriage custom culture that integrates agricultural culture and marine culture, and has certain historical and cultural value.
