Yanqi Lake is located 8 kilometers north of Huairou City. Every spring and autumn, flocks of wild geese often come to the lake to roost, hence the name. In 1985, approved by the Beijing Municipal Government, Yanqi Lake was listed as a key tourism development project in Beijing during the "Seventh Five-Year Plan" period, and officially opened to the public in 1987. Yanqi Lake was rated as a national AAAA-level tourist scenic spot by the National Tourism Administration in 2001, and was rated as a civilized scenic spot in the capital for 6 consecutive years. The good ecological environment attracts rare birds such as white swans and cranes to play in the lake, adding vitality to Yanqi Lake. Yanqi Lake has beautiful natural scenery. In spring, the peaks are green, flowers bloom, cranes dance, and birds sing, full of vitality; in midsummer, the lake and mountains are green and lush, splashing water and roaming, elegant and intoxicating; in autumn, the wind is fresh, the flowers and fruits are fragrant, and the mountains are full of red leaves, which is fascinating; in winter, the ice and snow are covered, a silver world, pure and hazy, like a poem and a painting. Yanqi Lake is surrounded by mountains on three sides. To the north, there are mountains and peaks. The famous Great Wall is like a giant dragon winding through the mountains; to the west is the majestic main peak of Hongluo Mountain. The morning bells and evening drums of the thousand-year-old temple echo the natural beauty of Yanqi Lake and complement each other; Jindeng Mountain and Yuanbao Mountain are like two bright pearls inlaid on the east bank of Yanqi Lake. There was an ancient temple on the top of the mountain - Jindeng Temple, which was called one of the eight old scenes of Huairou - Jindeng Puzhao Temple together with Puzhao Temple at the foot of the mountain. The superior ecological environment, locational resources and human resources have become the unique development advantages of Yanqi Lake. In 2010, the Beijing Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government positioned Huairou as a "cultural and technological high-end industrial new zone" and listed it as one of the "six highs and four new" high-end industrial functional new zones that the city will focus on developing during the "12th Five-Year Plan" period, designing a new framework and blueprint for Huairou's long-term development.
