🎧  Listen to Introduction

Huangdao paper-cutting has a long history of more than 300 years, while Xinan paper-cutting is even more famous. It was sent to Beijing as a tribute in the Qing Dynasty and was quite popular with the royal family. In November 1985, Zhang Shuzhen, a skilled paper-cutter from Shanchenjia Village, visited Mexico with a delegation from the Qingdao Municipal Government. Her paper-cutting performance was deeply loved by the Mexican people and aroused great interest in paper-cutting art among international friends. In recent years, Xinan paper-cutting art has been highly valued by cultural departments at all levels. On the basis of the original, folk paper-cutting art has been excavated and sorted out. Many of the works have won awards at provincial and municipal art exhibitions, folk art exhibitions and international cultural exchanges, and have been well received by relevant experts. In 2006, Huangdao paper-cutting was included in the first batch of intangible cultural heritage by Shandong Province. As part of the "intangible cultural heritage", Xinan paper-cutting occupies an important position in the paper-cutting cultural industry in Huangdao District and has become a highlight of regional culture.
