Cishan is located in the Economic and Technological Development Zone of Yantai City, bordering Penglai in the west and Fushan in the south. There have always been many popular folk stories and legends here. The earliest written record of "Cishan Folk Stories and Legends" originated from the "Fushan County Chronicles" during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty. It has a history of more than 400 years. After generations of oral transmission and heart-to-heart teaching by the people around Cishan, it has formed its unique characteristics and is widely circulated in Yantai Development Zone, Fushan District, Penglai City and other places centered on Cishan. "Cishan Folk Stories and Legends" are based on the real objects such as Cishan Temple, Xiangu Lake, Tonghai Cave, Cishan Xiangu, and Cishan Banxian. The four legendary stories of Cishan Tea, Cishan Tonghai Cave, Cishan Xiangu, and Cishan Banxian are the main body, carrying people's pursuit of truth, goodness and beauty, their desire for a better life, and their awe and respect for nature. According to legend, when the Queen Mother of the West was touring, she found that the scenery of Cishan was beautiful, so she transplanted the Tianting Jade Tea tree to Cishan, but no one in Cishan found it. Later, a tea merchant from the south discovered this tea and was overjoyed. He stayed in Cishan Temple for a year to pick tea. When he left, he gave the monk in the temple a box of tea to show his appreciation, but the monk thought he was stingy and put the tea in a corner. A few years later, the tea merchant came to Cishan again. After chatting, he found that the monk did not drink Cishan tea. So he put a pinch of tea and a copper coin into the teapot and added hot water in front of the monk. After a while, he opened the lid of the pot. The copper coin had melted without a trace, and the whole room was filled with the fragrance of tea. The tea merchant laughed and said, "Cishan tea is a fairy product, but you just don't know it." This is the legend of Cishan tea. There are still tea trees in Cishan with excellent quality. The legend of Cishan Tonghai Cave comes from a deep and tortuous cave on Cishan called Tonghai Cave. It is said that Tonghai Cave leads directly to the Dragon Palace in Beihai. On Cishan lived an old couple who lived in poverty and depended on each other. The old man was ill in bed. Because the old woman had no rice to cook at home, she ventured to go to the Dragon Palace from Tonghai Cave to catch fish for the old man. As a result, she was discovered by shrimp soldiers and crab generals and turned into a stone man. The old man stood on the hillside, waiting for the old woman. After a long time, he turned into a stone old man. Thus, there is the legend of Tonghai Cave in Cishan. There are many legendary stories about Cishan. For example, "Cishan Fairy" is based on He Xiangu, one of the Eight Immortals, and tells the story of how she solved problems for the people of Cishan and benefited the people; "Cishan Half-Immortal" tells the story of an old monk who wanted to become an immortal, but after picking the twin eggplants that could become immortals, he became a half-immortal by mistake, and his apprentice, the little monk, flew to the sky and became an immortal. The legendary and vivid Cishan folk tales contain multiple characteristics and have become one of the carriers of the history and culture of Yantai Development Zone. They record many precious historical materials from different aspects and vividly show the customs and habits of the local people. They are of great value for studying local folk customs.
