It is a traditional Chinese custom to enjoy lanterns during the Lantern Festival. The Zibo Yudai Lake Lantern Art Festival has been held for five years. Through the continuous holding of the Lantern Art Festival, the Zibo Lantern Festival has been continued and achieved breakthrough development, and gradually found a sustainable development path of supporting lanterns. Zibo Lantern Festival has been comprehensively improved and developed in terms of lantern festival preparation, lantern group design, production process, safety assurance and other aspects. Zibo Lantern Festival has a long history, rich cultural heritage and distinct regional characteristics. In 2000, Zibo was named "Hometown of Chinese Folk Art (Lantern)" by the Ministry of Culture. In 2009, the Zibo Lantern Festival was included in the "Second Batch of Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection List of Shandong Province". In 2014, the Zibo Lantern Festival was selected into the fourth batch of national intangible cultural heritage representative project list.
