long time ago, the Miao people practiced men farming and women weaving. Women were responsible for the clothes, blankets, and bedding of the family. They cut wild hemp from the mountains, dried it at home, tied it into bundles, hammered the hemp stalks with wooden sticks into cotton-like balls, spread it out (about 3 cm thick), and tied it with hemp thread to make linen cloth. Later, the textile technology of Huang Daopo, a cotton textile innovator in the Yuan Dynasty, was introduced to the Miao area. Combined with the living environment and production and living conditions of the Miao people, it has been passed down to this day through continuous improvements from generation to generation. The Miao people have many weaving tools, such as: hemp seeds, twisting machines, spinning wheels, bobbins, looms (one set), beeswax, green pole tree ash, wire piles (10), 10 square meters of wire field, an iron pot, wire pressing stone slabs, wire pressing drums, rolling groove pits, straw, etc. The Miao people have a complex process of weaving linen cloth. In June every year, they level the land and sow hemp seeds, harvest hemp stalks in mid-August, cut the tops of the hemp stalks, stand them up to dry, tear the threads one by one with their thumbs, connect the threads, twist the threads, connect the threads and twist them on bamboo tubes, boil the threads, spin the threads, make the threads, thread the threads, put them on the loom, boil the linen cloth repeatedly, wax it, and roll the cloth to make the finished linen cloth. It takes dozens of processes to make a linen cloth for the Miao people, especially rubbing, connecting, and tearing the linen threads. It is not difficult to imagine the hardship and complexity of weaving linen cloth. The Miao linen cloth is warm, breathable, wear-resistant, warm in winter and cool in summer, reflecting the wisdom of the Miao people. It has certain research value for studying the production, life and clothing of the Miao people in our county. On July 3, 2020, the "Traditional Weaving Skills of the Miao Nationality" was announced by the People's Government of Panzhihua City as the fourth batch of representative projects of Panzhihua City's intangible cultural heritage.
