Huangnan Tibetan Opera is a Tibetan opera in Huangnan, Qinghai. In the mid-1920s, it once covered Huangnan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture and parts of the neighboring Xunhua Salar Autonomous County and Hualong Hui Autonomous County. It is currently mainly popular in Huangnan. Huangnan Tibetan Opera is an important branch of the Amdo language Tibetan Opera. Its development has gone through the rap stage from the mid-17th century to the mid-18th century; the formation stage of three-person performance during the period of Xia Ri Cang III from 1740 to 1794; the mature stage during the period of Ji Xian Jia from 1854 to 1946; the prosperous development stage during the period of Duo Ji Jia from 1910 to 1973; and the improvement and innovation stage since 1980. Huangnan Tibetan Opera has the following characteristics: 1. It has a wide range of mass and folk inheritance. The folk and temple Tibetan opera teams have always maintained close contact with the public. 2. In terms of music, it retains the elements of religious music and also absorbs local folk songs, dance music and other materials. 3. In addition to the eight traditional Tibetan operas, the repertoire also includes "The Legend of King Gesar" and "King's Official Quebang" which are not available in other Tibetan areas. 4. The ritual drama "Gongbao Dorje Listening to the Dharma", an ancient and precious primitive drama form, is preserved. 5. The improvisational performances are unique. These improvisations not only show the superb artistic level of the screenwriters and actors, but also play a good role in criticizing current ills and purifying the social environment. 6. In the long-term artistic practice, the Huangnan Tibetan opera artists of all generations have summarized various professions and complete performance routines, hand gestures, fingering, body steps and character modeling, absorbed the character forms of the Huangnan temple murals, and integrated the temple religious dances, folk dances and Tibetan life material movements, etc., forming a unique artistic style of this type of drama. After the 1980s, the Qinghai Tibetan Opera Troupe was established in Huangnan, creating and performing excellent repertoires such as "Yile Fairy", "The Envoy of the Tibetan King" and "Golden Dawn", which had a great influence at home and abroad. In recent years, affected by the impact of modern culture, Huangnan Tibetan Opera has also faced the crisis of being lost, with the number of troupes decreasing, the artists aging, and the scope of performances shrinking. Rescue is imperative.
