Laoyeshan Flower Festival
The Laoyeshan Flower Festival is a large-scale folk song singing event held on the sixth day of the sixth lunar month every year in Laoyeshan, Datong Hui and Tu Autonomous County, Qinghai Province. It originated in the Ming Dynasty. After hundreds of years of development, along with the "Chaoshan Langhui" event, it has gradually evolved from a large-scale folk seasonal folk activity that mainly entertains people from entertaining gods. There are two forms of singing at the Laoyeshan Flower Festival. One is spontaneous mass singing. On the sixth day of the sixth lunar month, dozens or hundreds of people sing freely in the dense forests and flowers of Laoyeshan, blending the scene; the other is organized singing that emerged after 1949, with a fixed singing venue and stage. Singers are selected through layers of selection and compete on the stage. The Laoyeshan Flower Festival mainly sings "Hehuang Flowers". The singers include singers from the Han, Hui, Tu, Tibetan and other ethnic groups, and they sing flowers together in Chinese. This is a significant feature of the Laoyeshan "Flowers" and "Flower Festivals" that are different from other folk songs and singing festivals. The content of Laoyeshan Huaer mainly sings about love life, and also involves religion, folk customs, production labor, historical stories, new people and new things. Its lyrics are mainly four-sentence form with seven characters (one and three sentences) and eight characters (two and four sentences). It is specially stipulated that the end of the second and fourth sentences must be a "two-character" word. In addition, the first and third sentences and the second and fourth sentences are rhymed respectively, forming a special lyrics rhythm, which is also a special case among the Han folk songs in the country. The language of Hehuang Huaer is vivid, figurative, beautiful, and bright. It often uses rhetorical techniques such as fu, bi, and xing, and has extremely high literary value. Datong Laoyeshan Huaer has representative repertoires such as "Datong Ling", "Dongxia Ling", and "Laoyeshan Ling". These tunes have unique rhythms, beautiful and lyrical, high-pitched and loud, and melodious, and are deeply loved by people of all ethnic groups in Datong. (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.)
