Wansheng District Jinqiao Wind and Percussion Music is a folk wind and percussion music in Jinqiao Town, Wansheng District, Chongqing. It originated in the Song and Yuan Dynasties and has a history of more than 700 years. Jinqiao currently has more than 70 music classes and more than 800 musicians. In the long-term inheritance, Jinqiao Wind and Percussion has formed categories such as festive, production and life, funeral, and folk legends. There are tunes such as [Flower Lantern], [Daqupai], [Chaopai], [Gongtang], and performance techniques such as Pinda, Diaoda, Sanda, Ganda, Jiada, Diaosanda, Bamboo Leaf Blowing, and Whistling, with more than 1,000 repertoires. Jinqiao Wind and Percussion has the characteristics of wide range, large volume, strong strength, bright timbre, and strong penetration. Its most notable characteristic technique is the "Ma Fengsheng" created by Liu Duoer in the Qing Dynasty. After more than 200 years of development by five generations of people including Liu Hanqing, Xiang Yiyun, Xiang Ziqin, and Weng Qinghua, the "Ma Fengsheng" technique has become more mature. During the performance, the high sound of the suona resembles the whistling of a horse, and the sound of the drum "de ge du" is like the sound of horse hooves. When the song reaches its climax, the whistling of the horse and the sound of the hooves resonate, demonstrating the momentum of thousands of horses galloping, thus forming the famous "horse wind sound" school. Jinqiao percussion has won many awards in performance competitions in Sichuan Province and Chongqing City. The Chongqing Municipal Bureau of Culture named Jinqiao Town as the "Hometown of Percussion Music" and Jinqiao percussion is one of the "Top Ten Folk Arts of Bayu". At present, the accomplished percussion musicians in Jinqiao Town are getting older and have passed away one after another. The number of young people participating in percussion is decreasing, and some unique skills are difficult to pass on. Both Jielong percussion and Jinqiao percussion are in an endangered state and urgently need to be rescued and protected.
