Food music is a kind of folk music widely spread in Jiangle County, Fujian Province. It has been passed down for more than four generations. Almost everywhere in urban and rural areas, there are food music teams composed of farmers. Jiangle food music is rooted in the daily life of the masses and is widely used. It has played an irreplaceable role in festive occasions such as festivals, welcoming gods, birthdays of the elderly, weddings and childbirth, as well as folk activities such as festival dragon dances and even funeral ceremonies. While it brings entertainment to the people of Jiangle, it has also become an important way and means of music edification and dissemination. There are two types of "food music": civil and martial. The use of gongs and drums and big blowing is called "martial"; there are two types of civil, the use of small suona is called "Zhazi Wenchang", and the use of no small suona is called "Shengxiao Wenchang". "Naoxiang Huatan" is a special form of the civil. It does not play real food music, but mostly Jiangnan songs. The so-called "Naoxiang Huatan" is actually a band walking on the street. In the old days, when welcoming gods and holding competitions, the Bodhisattva would walk along the streets with beautifully decorated incense flower beds, and the band would follow the incense flower beds, so it was called "noisy incense flower beds". Some wealthy families held funerals, with memorial banners for the deceased, sedan chairs and flower beds, and also noisy incense flower beds. The instruments used in "food noisy" music include plum blossoms (big suona, big blow), zhazi (small suona), horizontal bamboo (flute), yehu, erhu, pipa, sanxian, yangqin, drums, flat gongs, small gongs, big cymbals, small cymbals, mirror gongs and cloud zheng, etc. According to the different tunes used, food noisy music can be divided into festive music (wedding, birthday, welcoming gods and holding competitions), dragon lantern gongs and drums and funeral music. During festivals, god-welcoming competitions, birthdays, weddings and childbirths, food and noisy music can be used to liven up the atmosphere. During the dragon lantern parade, housewarming, dragon return and dragon dance, cannons and gongs and drums are used to create an atmosphere and make the gongs and drums more lively. At funeral ceremonies, the funeral music in the music and noisy music is a completely independent set of music that cannot be mixed with other music. "The music and noisy music" is a unique variety of Fujian folk music, with significant characteristics in both form and content. Because it is gradually formed on the basis of local folk customs, it has distinct local characteristics.
