Dongba Dance
Dongba dance is a dance of the Naxi ethnic group, mainly spread in the Old Town District of Lijiang City and Yulong Naxi Autonomous County, with nearly 100 routines. "Dongba Dance Score" is a classic book that uses Naxi pictographic characters to systematically and thoroughly record and describe Dongba dance movements. So far, 6 volumes have been discovered, recording 52 Dongba dance methods and related cultural information. There are four types of Dongba dance recorded in dance scores: Great God Dance, such as "Saiyiweiden Dance" and "Hengdiwopan Dance"; War God Dance, such as "Youma Dance" and "Langjiu Jingjiu Dance"; Animal Dance, imitating the movements and expressions of various animals, such as "Golden God Frog Dance" and "Dapeng God Bird Dance"; Instrument Dance, such as "Lantern Dance", "Flower Dance", "Demon Pestle Dance". In the group dance composed of some dance segments, a relatively complete mythological storyline runs through. Dongba dance is performed in coordination with percussion music, with as few as one or two performers and as many as thirty or forty performers. Different dances are performed in different occasions, and the costumes and props used are also varied. Dongba dance originated from the ancient sacrificial dance of the Naxi people. It reflects the objective things in nature and the social relations between people in a large number of ways through direct simulation or indirect expression. The dance segments with storylines are performed in series, and they have the rudiments of a dance drama. Dongba dance inherits the primitive artistic tradition of simplicity, but has broken away from the crudeness and randomness of primitive music and dance, and maintains the ancient dance characteristics of simplicity, grace and elegance; the name and cultural connotation of the dance have obvious traces of integration with the Tibetan Bon culture, thus forming a unique artistic style.
