Dabiya Dance of the Nu Nationality
Dabiya dance is one of the representative dances of the Nu nationality, which is popular in the Nu nationality villages in Fugong and other counties of Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture. "Dabiya" is a traditional plucked instrument of the Nu nationality, which looks like a pipa and a three-stringed instrument. Dabiya dance is a dance named after the instrument "Dabiya". Dabiya dance is characterized by dancers playing and dancing at the same time. There are nearly a hundred routines, and the themes of expression are very wide. There are "the first, second and third land-searching dances" reflecting the continuous migration of the ancestors of the Nu nationality, "hand dances" reflecting the bride and uncle dancing when getting married in the matriarchal society, "birth dances" for men to give birth to children, "ancient wars" to defend the homeland, "double Dabiya dances" showing that the love of the Nu nationality's ancestors Zhafusai and Zhafuma moved the gods, "dances to find lovers" and "dances for lovers to escape marriage" reflecting love, "dances to find wild vegetables", "dances to cut millet", "hunting dances" and "dances for hens to lay eggs" reflecting production and life, and "oh de de dances" featuring singing, etc., all of which are expressed by combining dance movements with piano sounds. The Dabiya dance reflects the historical and cultural life of the Nu people from many aspects and has important research value. The Dabiya dance requires both playing the strings and dancing, and the technique is quite difficult. There are very few people who can dance it now. Many elderly people who can dance no longer sing minor songs or dance folk dances due to religious reasons. Therefore, the "Dabiya dance" is gradually disappearing.
