Chengguxuan Ancient Music
Chengguxuan ancient music was popular in the northern part of Cixi, Zhenhai and Yuyao counties during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, so it was called "Sanbei ancient music". It was especially centered in Guanhaiwei, Cixi, and has been passed down for hundreds of years. According to research, "Sanbei ancient music" was introduced to Cixi as early as the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty and was deeply welcomed by the people. Chengguxuan ancient music mainly includes three categories: "ancient ship music", "car light special music", and major tune "fine ten-part". Ancient ship music includes more than 10 tunes such as "Peach and Willow Fight for Spring", "General's Order", "Three Tunes", and "Happy". Car light special music includes "Door Leaning on Railings", "Parasitic Grass", "Cannon Strike", "Leaving Beijing", "Fisherman's Tune" and hundreds of other tunes. It is a representative work of Sanbei traditional music during the Ming, Qing and Republic of China periods. Fine ten-part major tune is an indispensable part of the Guanhaiwei City God Temple Fair. Since it was introduced to the Guanhaiwei City God Temple Fair in the early years of Hongwu, it has been passed down from generation to generation and has continued to this day. There are nearly 100 pieces of ancient music in Chengguxuan, and the rest have been lost. Take the car tune as an example. It is very difficult to find it in society. Now, only the car lights are seen in festivals in various places, but there is no special music for it. Some people use minor tunes or pop songs instead. In order to inherit and promote Chengguxuan ancient music, the Cixi Guanhaiwei Chengguxuan Band was established in 1998. They have worked hard for nearly 20 years, with weekly seminars and training, and have never stopped regardless of the season. They rely on the inheritors of ancient music to collect and organize materials and cultivate new successors, so that Chengguxuan ancient music can be better inherited, protected and developed.
