Yichun bamboo and wood carving (the fourth batch of provincial level) Yichun wood carving is a traditional carving art that has long been famous in Yichun, Jiangxi, especially in Tiantai Town, Yuanzhou District of the city. It originated in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. It uses wood and tree roots such as nanmu, camphor, zhushu, oil tea, and catalpa as materials. It is ingenious and discerning. It is hand-carved with hammers, saws, chisels, round shovels, planes, carving knives, and drills to make various handicrafts, among which Nuo masks, portraits of historical figures, and home decorations are the best. It is a vivid embodiment of Gan culture. It is famous inside and outside the province for its unique charm, exquisite carvings and wide range of expressions. It is called a wonderful flower bred in the fertile soil of Yichun folk arts and crafts. Peng Huanlian, a villager in Zhongkeng Village, Tiantai Town, whose ancestors have made a living by doing wood carving for generations, is a typical representative. He devoted himself to research in inheritance and explored a complete set of wood carving techniques with his own unique style and ancient charm, becoming a representative inheritor of this traditional handicraft. The Ganxi Nuo masks he carved are lifelike and lifelike. He uses abstract and exaggerated techniques to create simple, rough and bold Nuo god heads, making valuable contributions to the excavation and inheritance of Ganxi Nuo culture. In 2008, he carved masks of 108 characters from "Water Margin", which were vivid and freehand, and brought the Nuo mask carving skills to the fullest, winning the gold medal at the "International Nuo Culture and Art Festival" held in Jiangxi Province. To welcome the 1st, he used traditional Chinese well-known wood "Zhu, camphor, cypress, catalpa, nanmu", and carved "Five Fuwa", as well as other works such as "Tang Hong" and "Blowing the Wind", all of which won awards in many places, fully demonstrating the characteristics of Yichun wood carvings, which are simple and unique in shape, vivid and vivid in pattern, and exquisite and delicate workmanship.
