Yiyang City is located in the north-central part of Hunan Province. It has a mid-subtropical monsoon humid climate. The city has a population of 4.6 million and an area of 12,144 square kilometers. The soil is fertile and the climate is pleasant, so the bamboo resources are very rich. The accumulation volume reaches 1.5 billion, ranking second in the country. In 1995, it was named "Hometown of Nanzhu" by the State Forestry Administration. Xiaoyu Bamboo Art is a traditional folk handmade craft that uses a diameter of less than 5 cm of steel (hemp) bamboo as a skeleton and moso bamboo as parts to process various utensils. It mainly consists of more than 30 processes such as material selection, cutting, burning oil, and making. The people of Yiyang have long used the abundant local bamboo to make various utensils with the Xiaoyu craft. The cultural relics unearthed from the Neolithic Daxi Cultural Site in Tujiatai, Nan County, Yiyang, prove that the history of Yiyang Xiaoyu Bamboo Art has been more than 6,000 years. It became an industry in the early Ming Dynasty. It began to export to Britain, France and other countries in the 12th year of Daoguang in the Qing Dynasty. In the past 100 years, it has won more than 80 gold and silver awards at various international and domestic exhibitions. From 1963 to 1989, as cultural exchange envoys, 68 technicians from Yiyang went to 16 countries in Asia, Africa, Latin America and Europe to teach Xiaoyu bamboo art. From 1993 to 1999, the Yiyang local government also successfully held four international bamboo culture festivals, especially the 99 China Bamboo Culture Festival, using its Yiyang bamboo culture, which is well-known at home and abroad. Wan Guoquan, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the International Bamboo and Rattan Organization, visited Yiyang, which influenced the entire world bamboo and rattan community. In 2005, the "International Bamboo Processing Seminar" jointly organized by the United Nations Asia-Pacific Technology Transfer Center and the Ministry of Science and Technology of China was successfully held in Yiyang. Xiaoyu bamboo art products have a square structure, beautiful and generous appearance, which conforms to people's aesthetic taste. These advantages are widely used in wooden and iron furniture and decoration industries. The products are durable, and the more they are used, the redder and smoother they are. Therefore, the people of the bamboo village widely use bamboo to make various utensils, covering almost all aspects of production and life. In addition to their practical value, bamboo products also have great spiritual value. They can inspire people's creative potential. At the same time, bamboo has influenced the entire Chinese nation with its excellent qualities such as "humility, integrity, and elegance", forming a unique bamboo culture. It has made important contributions to enriching the cultural diversity of the Chinese nation and forming the noble humanistic spirit of the Chinese nation. In today's era of rapid economic development, the value of bamboo culture will be more prominent and more precious, and will definitely have a more important impact on future generations.
