Tiger shoe making technique
Tiger shoe making skills are a traditional skill project in the fourth batch of Lianyungang City's list of representative projects of intangible cultural heritage. As a type of fabric art, making tiger shoes belongs to Lianyungang's traditional folk handicrafts and is also a typical local folk custom. It has a good foundation for mass protection and social inheritance in Lianyungang. Local residents believe that infants and young children wearing tiger shoes will walk like dragons and tigers, be full of energy, and grow up strong in the future. Wearing tiger shoes, tiger hats, tiger sleeves, and tiger pillows, children will not be disturbed by evil spirits and will be safe and auspicious. The tiger culture in Lianyungang has a long history and has been popular for a long time. The production of tiger shoes involves nearly ten processes, from cutting shoe patterns, pasting bones, sewing soles, gluing shoe bands to embroidering patterns, tying tiger whiskers and sewing shoes. The specific process is to cut out the shoe pattern with hand paper first, then paste the bones with old cloth, and cut out the shapes of the bands and soles according to the shoe pattern. Overlap and glue the multiple bones, paste the upper and lower parts with new white cloth, and sew the soles with cotton thread or cotton rope. The outer layer of the shoes is made of brightly colored cloth, and the inner layer is made of white cloth, which are glued together with a bone in the middle. Cotton is sandwiched between the two layers of cotton shoes. Patterns are embroidered on the shoes according to the pattern. The tiger whiskers are tied with silk thread, and then the shoes are formed. The soft sole is made by gluing several layers of cotton cloth together, and the bottom is made with cotton thread, and the thread is relatively sparse. The hard sole is glued with multiple layers of bone, and the bottom is made with cotton rope or hemp rope, and the stitches are also dense. The key to making tiger shoes is the decoration of the tiger shape. There are many kinds of tiger shoe decorations, but the tiger head shape of the shoe head, the "king pattern" embroidered on the forehead, the nose, eyes and mouth, and the tiger whiskers tied beside the mouth are all fixed.
