The customs of mountain people are folklore projects of the fifth batch of representative projects of intangible cultural heritage at the municipal level in Lianyungang City. Lianyungang City is a coastal city surrounded by mountains and the sea. The mountains are high and the forests are dense, the clouds and fogs are lingering, the valleys are green and the resources are rich, which provide a superior natural environment and living conditions for the survival of mountain residents. At the same time, it also creates unique folk customs for mountain people living in this area. Because the majority of mountain people live in scattered areas, they see more leaves than people. Therefore, they are attached to the mountains, take from the mountains, and dedicate to the mountains and worship the mountains. From food, clothing, housing, transportation, marriage, funerals, birth, aging, illness and death, production and lifestyle, etc., there are obvious differences and differences in the customs and habits of the salt people and fishermen in the surrounding areas. This is the customs of the mountain people in Lianyungang City referred to in this project. The customs of the mountain people in Lianyungang City are very distinctive: in terms of food, clothing, housing and transportation, the custom of mountain people's clothes is that working men mostly wear dark colors without light colors, and the cloth is often made of white cloth and dyed with plants. Food is mostly taken from the mountains, or purchased with money from mountain products, or bartered, or planted by themselves, or explored and processed. Because it is inconvenient to buy, salted fish, meat and salted eggs are mostly stored; if there are guests, the family is short of them, and they borrow from each other. Most of the houses are facing the mountain, or southeast or southwest, which is generally determined by Feng Shui masters. The poor live in Dingtou houses, and ordinary people live in Sanhetou and Sihetou courtyards. The main house is mostly the hall, which is a three-room and two-end house with five or seven beams. There is a characteristic of the houses of mountain people in Lianyungang City, that is, most of the mountain people are relatively wealthy. Most of these wealthy families have built artillery towers with all-stone structures. The front and back doors of the main room are board doors with stone door pillows and door bolts, which are very sturdy. Going out is mainly walking, long-distance people walk with leg wraps, and the rich use donkeys instead of walking. Production and life are mainly organized by family members. A family with elders living is generally rarely divided. There are often more than a dozen or even dozens of people in a family, and they eat in rice buckets. When they are sick, they often ask the immortal father and the immortal grandmother to see them, or they can rescue themselves according to superstitious legends, or they can collect Chinese herbal medicine for treatment. In production, tree felling, mountain weeding, digging herbs, picking pine needles, picking trees, and mountain sticks are all carried out according to the season. There are also some special production projects, such as mountain quarrying, kiln burning, mountain stick burning, and charcoal burning, which require sacrificial activities, such as offering sacrifices to mountain gods and fire gods. Some mountain people have special requirements and special beliefs. For example, some mountain people believe in fox gods, build immortal halls near their homes for the immortals and old ladies to live in, and regularly offer tribute fruits and incense. In short, the customs of mountain people are rich in content and cover a variety of things; there are essences and dregs. But it is an important part of the customs of Lianyungang citizens. It has been passed down orally for generations, and the "Haizhou Chronicles" of the Ming and Qing Dynasties recorded it in a few words, and the meaning is unclear. Later, there were few written records. With the development of forestry in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China, modern management methods gradually progressed, and monographs and a few articles began to appear. As time goes by and the social system changes, the long-established customs of the mountain folks in Lianyungang City continue to escape. Some cultural customs that reflect local characteristics and have cultural heritage significance are gradually fading, and the number of inheritors is also decreasing, forming a heritage crisis and lack of successors. Therefore, the purpose of applying for the intangible cultural heritage project of mountain folk customs is to protect, inherit and carry forward this folk custom project.
