Dragon dance (Dinghuo dragon dance), a traditional dance project in the third batch of representative projects of intangible cultural heritage of Jiangsu Province. Dinghuo dragon dance is a traditional folk entertainment activity in Jiangsu Province. Its history of formation and development is basically synchronized with the history of Chinese dragon dance. It originated in the Han Dynasty and has a history of more than 2,000 years. Local folklore says that female Taoist priests Du Jiang and Kang Zixia from the Holy Mother Temple of Dongling in Yangzhou used herbs to boil soup to treat patients during the plague, saving the people of Caijiazhuang near Dinghuo from danger. Later, Du and Kang turned into white dragons and flew away. In order to commemorate the merits of the two women, the people commemorated them by dancing dragons. After the Han Dynasty, dancing dragons to pray for rain became a custom that the working people of Dinghuo have always followed. Dragon dance is a totem with a cheerful and attractive charm. It is festive and auspicious, and is a popular entertainment method for people during auspicious and blessing seasons. In the Qing Dynasty, Dinghuo dragon dance was popular among the people, and many dragon dance teams entered Yangzhou City to participate in the lantern festival performance. From the Republic of China to before the Cultural Revolution, the dragon dance in Dinghuo had new developments, with more than a hundred folk dragon dancers, and a pattern of three dragons dancing together: grass dragon, flower tree dragon, and cloth dragon. When the Anti-Japanese War was won and the country was liberated, all the dragons in Dinghuo danced together, and there was jubilation. During the Cultural Revolution, the dragon dance in Dinghuo died down and entered a period of depression. In 1993, the Dinghuo Town Government held a dragon dance meeting for the first time. Since then, the dragon dance in Dinghuo has entered a recovery period and developed year by year. Since 2001, a town dragon dance meeting has been held every two years. By 2002, there were 23 dragon dance teams in the town. In 2003, Dinghuo Town was named "Jiangsu Province Characteristic Culture Town (Dragon Dance)" by the Provincial Department of Culture, and in 2005 it was named "Chinese Characteristic Culture Town (Dragon Dance)" by the China Folk Art Association. The Dinghuo Warren Dragon Dance Team has also won gold and silver medals in major national and international competitions many times. Dinghuo dragon dance is a folk culture with strong mass participation. It is a combination of hardness and softness, vivid and lifelike, and uses various postures of the human body to integrate strength, amplitude and speed into the dragon dance skills. It is unrestrained, hardworking, coordinated and innovative, showing the spirit and charm of the dragon, and reflecting the spirit of people's unity, strength and hard work.
