November 11 (the 16th day of the 10th lunar month) is the annual Panwang Festival of the Yao ethnic group. Yao villages such as Mengcun in Jinxiu Town, Jinxiu Yao Autonomous County, and Guchentun in Liuxiang Township spontaneously held Panwang Festival activities at the same time to wish for good weather, good harvests, and a prosperous population. The activities include offering sacrifices to Panwang, returning Panwang's wishes, yellow mud drum performances, butterfly dances, and Yao folk stunts such as climbing a knife mountain, going down a sea of fire, and stepping on fire with bare feet to burn the plow head red, as well as various traditional folk dances. It is understood that there are five Yao ethnic branches in Jinxiu, including Panyao, Chashanyao, Hualanyao, Shanziyao, and Aoyao. The yellow mud drum performance of the Jinxiu Yao has been included in the third batch of national intangible cultural heritage.
