Huangpu has a long history, and its long history has accumulated a magnificent and colorful folk traditional culture. The dragon and lion art, known as one of the "three treasures of Huangpu", has been passed down and promoted, forming the characteristics of local festivities. The custom of lion dance in Huangpu has a long history. Since the Qing Dynasty, lion dance has become an indispensable performance item for entertainment in the float parade. In the late Republic of China, Liang Guoguang, Jian Tao and others in Huangpu inherited the custom of lion dance, set up schools to teach art, and integrated martial arts into traditional lion dance, making the southern lion extremely majestic, agile and vigorous. The southern lion is divided into "Foshan Lion" and "Heshan Lion". The common drum music of the southern lion is the three-star drum and the seven-star drum, which is the same as the lion art in Guangdong. After the founding of New China, the people of Huangpu inherited the traditional custom of lion dance, and the lion dance activities have been passed down. In the early 1980s, the lion dance activities in Huangpu gradually heated up. The Huangpu Town Lion Dance Team was first established by the Huangpu Town Trade Union. Later, the lion dance teams in Huangpu sprang up like mushrooms after rain, and more than a dozen lion dance teams were established one after another. The lion dance teams were invited to "pick green" to help with the New Year's Day and the opening of stores. "Pick green" must have lettuce with roots and "lucky money". Lettuce is pronounced in the same way as "making money", which means to pray for good fortune in the future. "Lucky money" is the reward given by the host to the lion team who came to congratulate and pray. "Pick green" is divided into "high green" and "ground green". Picking high green is commonly known as "standing on the shoulders". The host hangs lettuce and lucky money in a high place. The lion dance team uses the stacking method to stack people up layer by layer to the front of the "green". The lions perform various moves. "Pick green" usually goes through the following procedures: looking for green, seeing green, startling green, exploring green, playing with green, dismantling green, eating green, spitting green, getting drunk on green, etc. Finally, the spitted "green" is thrown to the host to show vigor and good luck. "Ground green" puts "green" on the ground, and some are set on equipment, such as stones, trees, plates, sand pots, etc. It is divided into "stool green", "basin green" and "crab green", etc. It is a form of Caiqing that requires a lot of skills and is difficult. In the 1990s, the Huangpu Lion Dance Team had more and more frequent exchanges with lion dances from other places, and the art of performance became more and more exquisite. There was also a high-pile lion dance team that was in line with international lion dance. The high-pile performance of the Huangpu Polytechnic Neon Lion Dance Troupe was even more amazing. The lion sometimes stood up straight on the high pole, sometimes leaned down and looked down, sometimes looked cute, and suddenly looked mighty and strong. The lion dancers turned up and down and circled left and right to the beat of the drums, which was thrilling, exciting and amazing. The complete international lion dance high-difficulty movements and routines made the Huangpu lion dance refreshing. In 2003, the "Huangpu Town Dragon and Lion Dance Sports Association" was established, with Master Zeng Weiqiang, an international referee and coach with profound dragon and lion skills, as the president. The members are all dragon and lion and martial arts enthusiasts from the Huangpu area. More than a dozen dragon and lion dance teams have been formed in the town. The association is full of talents, including one international-level dragon and lion dance coach and referee, one national second-level coach, and four national third-level coaches. Huangpu lion dance is diverse and colorful. There are two main styles: one is the traditional lion art represented by the China Youth Lion Dance Troupe, which is mainly based on the three-star and seven-star drum beats, and is the traditional "Foshan style". The second is represented by the Polytechnic Neon Dragon and Lion Dance Troupe, which adds new artistic elements on the basis of tradition. Based on the three-star, five-star, and seven-star drum beats, combined with the steps of martial arts, imitating the charm of the lion, and adding acrobatic skills to form a highly ornamental lion dance routine, which has given Huangpu's ancient lion dance a new lease of life. Huangpu lion dance has been very active from ancient times to the present. Since 1988, the town has held lion dance competitions on the third day of the first lunar month for 20 consecutive years, adding a peaceful and joyful atmosphere to the Spring Festival. In 1997, the Dragon and Lion Dance Association participated in the "Huangpu Piao Se Joy Festival" lion dance parade performance. In 2005, the association sent 70 lions to participate in the "Nanhai Xiqiao Lion Parade", 60 lions to participate in the opening ceremony of the first Guangdong Piao Se Competition, 50 lions to participate in the parade performance of the "10th South China Sea International Cycling Competition", and 50 lions to participate in the "Zhongshan Charity Walk". In 2008, 50 lions were sent to participate in the closing ceremony of the "Guangdong Tourism and Culture Festival". With the progress of the times, lion dance has developed from a performance of folk festivals to a sports competition for national fitness. In 2006, the Huangpu Dragon and Lion Sports Association and the Guangdong Dragon and Lion Sports Association jointly organized the "Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Lion Dance High-pile Elite Invitational Competition" and won the first place. The Polytechnic Neon Dragon and Lion Dance Troupe has won excellent results in provincial and municipal high-pile and traditional lion competitions over the years. In 2008, it won the silver medal in the National North-South Lion King Challenge and the gold medal in the National (Fujian) Dragon and Lion Dance Competition. The Dayan Primary School Lion Dance Troupe also won good results in the provincial competition. The Xinsha Primary School Lion Dance Troupe won the first prize and first place in the primary school group of the "Guangdong Traditional Southern Lion Dance Championship" in 2005 and 2006 respectively. The Polytechnic Neon Lion Dance Troupe was awarded the title of "Guangdong Dragon and Lion Dance Sports Project Base" by the "Guangdong Dragon and Lion Dance Sports Association" and was awarded the title of "Guangdong Folk Art Inheritance Base" by the Guangdong Folk Artists Association. President Zeng Weiqiang was awarded the honor of "Guangdong Rural Cultural Celebrity".
