Xuanwushan Yuanshan Temple is a national key cultural relic protection unit and a tourist attraction integrating religion, culture and tourism. Xuanwushan Temple Fair has a history of more than 200 years and has a wide range of influence. Xuanwushan Yuanshan Temple was first built in the first year of Jianyan in the Southern Song Dynasty (1127 AD), 882 years ago, and expanded in the fifth year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (1577), 432 years ago. Due to the strong incense over the years and the active folk activities, the General Council agreed to hold a Chongguang celebration every ten years (i.e. the year of Bing in the Heavenly Stems of the Ganzhi calendar) since the Bingshen year of Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty (1776 AD). The local people held a grand folk cultural event for this. All villages, communities and industries in Jieshi Town made preparations in advance. Folk artists also showed their talents and designed and produced a variety of colorful cultural programs with excellent local traditional characteristics, such as dragon lanterns, lion lanterns, fish lanterns, flags, flower baskets, stilts, high scenery, bamboo horse shows, etc. At this time, the streets and alleys of Jieshi Town are full of lights and flowers, and every household is decorated with lights and fireworks, and various activities are held at the same time. The unique feature is that the communities and villages with Yuanshan Temple as the central gathering point, and the folk art and entertainment programs organized by various industries participate in the celebration activities, forming a recreational team over three miles long, singing and dancing in the streets. The whole Jieshi City is crowded with people, happy and joyful, presenting a scene of auspiciousness and peace. This activity has become a convention and has continued for more than 200 years. In June 2007, the Xuanwushan Temple Fair was included in the second batch of intangible cultural heritage list of Guangdong Province.
