Quwo Qinshu

🎧  Listen to Introduction

Quwo Qinshu is a traditional folk art form of the Han nationality that was formed and mainly popular in Quwo County in the south of Shanxi Province and the surrounding areas of the borders of Shanxi, Shaanxi and Henan Provinces. Because the octagonal drum and the single-fan cymbal are used to beat the accompaniment during the performance, it was formerly called "Guershu" or "Jiazishu". It is generally believed that it was developed by combining the "Yue Diao" (also known as "Yue Diao") introduced from Nanyang, Henan Province during the Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty with the local dialect and minor tunes. It has a history of about 130 years. Linfen is a city with rich cultural resources. In 2005, the city established the Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center. Following the guidelines of "protection first, rescue first, reasonable use, inheritance and development", after several years of hard work, the protection of "intangible cultural heritage" has made breakthrough progress. In this year's third batch of national intangible cultural heritage public announcement list, our city has another 9 items on the list. Quwo Qinshu is one of them. The performance form of Quwo Qinshu is alternating between singing and talking, with singing as the main method, and using Quwo dialect. In the early days, most of the performances were performed by one person holding a bangzi and accompanying himself. The local dialect of Quwo was used for sitting and singing. There were also performances of playing the four-stringed hu and stepping on the wooden fish, or one person playing the small yangqin with one hand and hitting the cross board with the other hand. Later, there were performances by multiple people. The lyrics are mainly seven-character sentences, four sentences form a paragraph, and the even-numbered sentences rhyme. The singing style is a mixture of banpai, with two singing styles, "jiaozi tune" and "guzi tune". The two singing styles have different pitches, and the key needs to be changed when singing alternately. In addition to the octagonal drum, small jiao and wooden fish, the accompaniment instruments can also be four-stringed hu, yangqin, banhu, three-stringed hu, flute, erhu, etc. The traditional program of Quwo Qinshu is relatively rich. There are long books based on classical novels, medium-length books created by literati, short books based on Han folk legends and myths, and some humorous and interesting small book caps. Generally speaking, the culture that has been precipitated by history is the best cultural heritage. Quwo Qinshu not only has a history of more than 130 years, but also has many excellent traditional programs created, enriched, developed and inherited by artists of all generations, which embody the life attitude, aesthetic taste and life ideal of local people. It is rich in historical and cultural content and is a fine product of local folk art. Since the 1990s, with the passing of old artists, only a very small number of young artists can still perform. There are few successors, few performances and little influence. The value and function cannot be fully demonstrated. It is on the verge of disappearance and urgently needs to be rescued and protected. Now many performances of Quwo Qinshu only show a small part of the content of Quwo Qinshu. In fact, there are still many contents that can be explored, such as its lyrics, genres, singing tunes, etc. The performance forms and contents that modern farmers like can be integrated into the traditional programs, making the performance forms more unique and more vivid, so that Quwo Qinshu can be passed down for a long time.
