The Liu family of Xiwenxing Village "began in the late Tang Dynasty and moved from Hedong to Qinli". They have been benevolent and polite to each other for generations, and have been loyal and filial to their ancestors. The life customs of the Liu family are the traditional etiquette and folk customs of the Liu family in Xiwenxing Village, which have been passed down from generation to generation. Xiwenxing Village is a well-preserved thousand-year-old ancient village where the Liu family of Hedong have lived for generations. It retains a complete group of ancient buildings with the characteristics of the feudal patriarchal system of the Liu family in the Ming and Qing dynasties, which reflects the historical and cultural essence of the Liu family's residences. There are still 56 households living in the ancient village, and more than 220 people of the same lineage are descendants of Liu Zongyuan, a political reformer, thinker, and writer in the Tang Dynasty. They have formed a unique folk traditional culture of the Liu family, which is a blood-related family, and is widely imitated by families in the surrounding villages. The life customs of the Liu family include birth customs, cap customs, marriage customs, funeral customs, etc. Each ritual has a complete set of procedures and rituals. There are strict requirements and norms for the participants' speech and behavior, clothing, food offerings, and the time of gratitude. There are clear regulations for the etiquette and banquets of different rituals. The Liu family's life rituals are currently the most typical family-style celebrations and sacrificial activities, with high historical value. They are also a living fossil that inherits the virtues of loyalty and filial piety of Yu Shun and passes on the folk culture of today. Inheriting the Liu family's life rituals has a positive role in inheriting and carrying forward our excellent traditional culture and traditional virtues, and building harmonious interpersonal relationships in the local area. The descendants of the Liu family have continued the rules of life rituals. Up to now, the family has prospered and lived in harmony, driving the surrounding villages and communities to be stable, united, and develop together. At present, with the advantages of the ancient village's history, culture, and humanities, it has brought rapid development to the village and surrounding areas, directly or indirectly arranging employment for more than 200 people in the surrounding communities, and has played a good leading and exemplary role in the surrounding villages. In order to better protect this folk historical and cultural heritage project, the Qinshui County Government established the Liu Family Residence Protection Leading Group in 1999. In 2003, Xiwenxing Village was rated as a famous historical and cultural village in Shanxi Province, and in 2004, the ancient village was rated as a famous historical and cultural village in China.
