Black pottery is a kind of pottery originated from ancient my country, with a history of about 5,000 years. It is called "the art of earth and fire, the crystallization of power and beauty". Jinzhong is one of the important birthplaces of the history and culture of the Yellow River Basin. This area stores a large amount of raw clay needed to make black pottery, providing natural high-quality resources for the production of black pottery. The soil used for black pottery is the large particles of sediment carried by the Yellow River during its flow, which sinks to the bottom of the river and accumulates after continuous scouring. Therefore, its deep soil is particularly fine, sand-free, and sticky. It is also rich in a variety of mineral elements. It can produce a pure black and uniform texture during firing, which is suitable for black pottery production. After the soil is taken out and dried, it is filtered with gauze to make a clay blank. After hand-pulling and shaping, it is repeatedly pressed with tools until the surface density of the pottery blank increases and it is as smooth as a mirror. Then, special carving tools are used to use line carving, shallow carving, deep carving, hollowing and other techniques to hand-carve gorgeous and mysterious patterns. Then, accessories such as ears, rings, noses, and legs are installed on the black pottery works. The pure black color on the surface of black pottery is made by firing the unique unglazed and colorless carbonization kiln-changed ancient technique. After leaving the kiln, it is completely natural and no further processing is done. Its appearance is as black as lacquer and as bright as a mirror. In the last stage of firing the utensils, water is slowly added from the top of the kiln to extinguish the charcoal, produce thick smoke, and intentionally smoke black to form black pottery. It is another peak of China's Neolithic pottery industry after painted pottery. Black pottery is mainly distributed in the Yellow River Basin, Shanxi, Shandong, Shaanxi, Henan and other places. The raw material is fine clay deposited for many years, and a small part is mixed with sandy utensils. In the early days, it was mainly sandy, and the surface of the utensils was mostly plain and decorated with string patterns, scratches, hollows, etc. With the continuous development of social productivity and the continuous improvement of handicraft production technology, more and more fine and sand-free clay is used, fast wheel production, shell polishing, and the patterns are refined, regionalized and nationalized, thus having a strong regional characteristic. Therefore, black pottery has the distinct cultural characteristics of the Yellow River Basin, reflecting the wisdom and rich imagination of the ancestors of the Yellow River Basin and the distinct historical traces, and has a unique profound historical heritage and cultural connotation.
