Ningjin County is an important birthplace of Chinese acrobatics. It originated in the Qin and Han Dynasties and flourished in the Ming and Qing Dynasties and the Republic of China. There are written evidences in the "Book of Han", "Records of the Grand Historian", "Records of Strange Things" and "Ningjin County Chronicles". Ningjin acrobatics, with its long history of development, broad mass base, profound cultural heritage and superb performance skills, has had a significant impact on the development of Chinese acrobatics. To this day, there is still a saying in the industry that "it is difficult to establish an acrobatics troupe without Ningjin people". The nationally famous Ningjin Huangjia Town Acrobatics Ancient Fair, the wonderful performances of Ningjin acrobats in the Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China, and the historical facts that Ningjin acrobats have won many awards in domestic and foreign performances after the founding of New China are the best interpretations of this. Ningjin acrobatics are simple and rough, with a combination of rigidity and flexibility, highlighting the five major artistic characteristics of "surprise, danger, wonder, beauty and novelty", and have extremely high aesthetic value, ornamental value and cultural value. Ningjin acrobatics are complete in categories, including performance, magic, circus, and animal training, of which there are more than 60 performance programs. More than ten programs such as ancient Chinese flags, judo holding flowers and rolling lanterns, aerial trapeze, pole climbing, high wire car, stacking monks, tightrope walking, pedaling, ground circle, and mouth-to-mouth holding flowers have been well received by audiences and industry insiders in domestic and foreign performances. After the founding of New China, especially since the reform and opening up, under the care of the Party and the government, Ningjin acrobatics has made great progress. The county acrobatics school and acrobatics troupe have been established. More than 2,000 acrobatics talents have been trained and sent to art groups at all levels across the country. Among them, a large number of actors and students have become business backbones in various places, and more than 20 actors have won domestic and international acrobatics awards. In recent years, the Ningjin Acrobatic Troupe has performed in many countries such as South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Russia, and Thailand, playing an important role in enhancing cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries and promoting economic development. In 1995, Ningjin County was named "Hometown of Chinese Folk Art (Acrobatics)" by the Ministry of Culture. In 2005, Ningjin Acrobatics was designated by Shandong Province as the first batch of projects to apply for "National Intangible Cultural Heritage". In 2008, Ningjin Acrobatics was officially selected into the second batch of "National Intangible Cultural Heritage List".
