Zhoucun, Shandong Province is one of the important birthplaces of China's mulberry silk industry. The Zhoucun silk industry has a history of more than 2,000 years since the ancient city of Yuling. Zhoucun silk dyeing and weaving techniques were born in the Zhoucun area more than 2,000 years ago, and have been passed down to this day after thousands of years of development. Zhoucun silk weaving and dyeing techniques mainly include three major parts: silk reeling, silk weaving, and printing and dyeing. The silk produced is famous for its generous patterns, bright colors, tough texture, dense organization, plump feel, and elasticity. At present, there are more than 80 kinds of Zhoucun silk traditional handicraft products, including more than 100 colors such as georgette, flower crepe satin, kimono silk, double-layer sandwich long scarf, brocade, etc. On May 24, 2021, the silk dyeing and weaving techniques (Zhoucun silk dyeing and weaving techniques) declared by Zhoucun District, Zibo City, Shandong Province were approved by the State Council to be included in the fifth batch of national intangible cultural heritage representative projects.
