Dazeshan Town, Pingdu City, Qingdao, has the reputation of "China's Grape Hometown". The Dazeshan Grape Festival is held here every autumn. The Dazeshan Grape Festival was originally a unique folk traditional festival in Pingdu Dazeshan District, "God of Wealth Festival" (July 22nd of the lunar calendar), which is said to have originated in the early Tang Dynasty. In 1987, the Dazeshan Town Government combined the characteristics of the grape producing area and guided the evolution into a "Grape Festival". In 1991, the municipal government decided to hold a festival in the whole city, renamed it "Pingdu Grape Festival", and scheduled to hold an opening ceremony on September 1st of the Gregorian calendar every year. Since 1995, in order to increase the popularity of Dazeshan grapes and promote the three golden signs of "China's Grape Hometown", "Important Stone Base in Northern China", and "Shandong Province Scenic Spot", the main venue of the festival was relocated to Dazeshan Town and named "Dazeshan Grape Festival". It lasts for more than a month, spanning the peak fruit-bearing period of different varieties of grapes, and tourists can taste the deliciousness of various grapes. History and Culture Zheng Xuan The earliest written record of grapes in China can be found in the "Book of Songs". "Poetry of Zhou Nan Li Mu": "There is a Li wood in the south, with Kudzu covering it; I am happy to be a gentleman, and I am blessed to walk on it." "Poetry of Wang Feng Ge": "The Kudzu is long and thick, and it is in the river. I am far away from my brothers, and I call others my father. I call others my father, but no one cares about me." "Poetry of Qi Yue": "In June, I eat Yu and, in July, I cook sunflower and beans. In August, I peel dates, and in October, I harvest rice. For this spring wine, I drink it to celebrate my birthday." From the above three poems, we can understand that in the Yin and Shang Dynasty (early 17th century BC or about 11th century BC) reflected in the Book of Songs, people already knew how to collect and eat various wild grapes. "Zhou Li" is one of the Confucian classics, which collects the official system of the Zhou royal family and the systems of various countries in the Warring States Period. "Zhou Li Di Guan Situ" records: "The field man is in charge of the field garden of the country, and the fruits and rare things planted are collected and stored in time." Zheng Xuan's note: "Fruits are of the genus of jujube, plum, melon and gourd. Rare things are of the genus of rambutan and pipa." This sentence is translated into modern text as: "The field man is in charge of the field garden inside the Kuomen, planting melons, fruits, grapes, pipa and other things, and collecting and storing them in time." In this way, about 3,000 years ago in the Zhou Dynasty, China already had domestic grapes and vineyards, and knew how to store grapes. At that time, grapes were rare fruits in the royal orchard. Zheng Xuan was from Shandong, and the history of grape planting in Dazeshan District can be traced back thousands of years. Longyan grapes have always been the main variety in Dazeshan District. In the early days of liberation, Shao Jiyuan and Zhou Junmin, known as the "grape couple", became the first scientific and technological personnel to come to Dazeshan. They were determined to change the pattern of single grape varieties. In the mid-1950s, they began to cross longan and rose-scented grapes to breed new varieties, and at the same time introduced new rose-scented grapes suitable for growing in Dazeshan area for promotion and trial planting. After careful cultivation and screening, rose-scented, Zeyu, Zexiang and other grape varieties were widely planted and became the second and third generation of Dazeshan grape varieties. Today, driven by the market economy and technological innovation, Pingdu has more than 300 grape varieties of various types, and various famous and excellent varieties are dazzling. Red Globe, Super Seedless, Victoria, Gold Finger, Beauty Finger and other varieties continue to shine at the Dazeshan Grape Festival.
