The prosperity of the canal economy provided fertile soil for the development of Peking Opera. At the end of the 19th century, when Peking Opera entered Linqing with commercial activities, it quickly took root. By the 1920s, amateur Peking Opera organizations in Linqing had developed greatly, with more than ten box offices and amateur Peking Opera fans all over the city. Many well-known amateur Peking Opera fans, such as Li Jingbo and Zhang Baoyi, also stepped onto the Chinese literary and artistic stage and became nationally renowned artists. In addition, famous Peking Opera repertoires such as "Chen Sanliang Climbing the Hall", "Three Levels of Promotion", and "Jiujiangkou" were all created based on people or things in Linqing in the old days. Linqing City has always regarded Peking Opera art as a banner of local regional culture. On the one hand, it often invites famous Peking Opera performance groups to perform as a bridge and link for social, cultural and economic exchanges, and at the same time actively supports amateur Peking Opera activities. Amateur Peking Opera fans also established their own organization, the Linqing City Amateur Peking Opera Association, and specially hired the famous Peking Opera performing artist Mr. Yuan Shihai as the honorary president. In 2001, our city successfully held the National Peking Opera Amateur Art Festival.
