Jiangzhen City God Temple Fair
The City God Temple Fair refers to a traditional, spontaneously organized mass worship activity that originated and has long been popular in Wangye Temple in Wujiang Town. It is held on May 28th of the lunar calendar every year. Once the fair begins, believers from all directions come to Wangye Temple to pay homage and pray for peace on a large scale. Its main activities include group incense burning, worship, and makeup. The City God Temple Fair has developed in parallel with the architectural development of Wangye Temple. Wangye Temple was built in the Bingxu year of Qianlong (1766) and has a history of more than 230 years. With the continuous improvement of the status and influence of Wujiang Han Tomb, the incense and popularity of the temple fair have become more and more prosperous, becoming an indispensable part of the lives of the people in Santai, Daying, and Zhongjiang within a radius of 50 kilometers, and an important festival in the minds of the majority of good men and women. With the acceleration of the development of Wujiang Han Tomb tourism, the traditional mass worship is increasingly restricted by time, space and environment, and is facing the danger of gradual extinction. Historical value: The Wangye Temple has a history of more than 230 years. It consists of the Mountain Gate Music Tower, the Front Hall, the Main Hall, and the Ziyun Palace. The main buildings are all built along the central axis. It is the oldest existing wooden structure ancient building complex in V City. There are many cultural relics and beautiful folk legends around the Wangye Temple. For example, the adjacent Emperor Temple, Jinzhongshan Han Tomb, Zijinwan Han Tomb, "Zhenjiang Prince", "Jade Emperor", "Ten Palaces of Hell", "Ox-Headed Horse-Faced" and "Black and White Impermanence" have greatly enriched the connotation of the City God Temple Fair. Artistic value: The City God Temple Fair is a model of integrating folk beliefs in gods and spirits. It presents the legendary Yin and Yang world, City God Bodhisattva, Wu Erye, Chicken Foot God, etc. in disguise, showing the activities and emotional expressions of gods and ghosts in another world, and expressing the people's yearning for a better life.
