Jianzhong stilt lion lantern is a folk art project with local folk traditional cultural characteristics in Santai County, Sichuan Province. It has a history of more than 170 years. It has been passed down to the ninth generation. Stilt lion lantern performances are divided into ground lion performances, stilt performances, high-platform performances, and high-pole performances, and are accompanied by some martial arts juggling. The most common props are smiling faces, lion heads, lion skins, stilts, gongs, drums, cymbals, horse gongs, etc. There are also many particulars in its activities. The performance time is generally during the Spring Festival, Lantern Festival, and major days such as weddings, funerals, and celebrations. The invited performers are divided into gong and drum groups and performance groups. During the performance, the performers dance and juggle lions to the rhythm of the music. According to needs, one group of lions can be formed, or two groups of lions, four groups or more groups can be formed. At most, eight groups have been formed, and the scene was quite spectacular and wonderful. Jianzhong stilt lion lanterns are different from other schools of lion lanterns. There are many difficult movements, such as stilt performances, high-platform performances, and martial arts juggling. High-platform performances are divided into code tables and one well. Stacking tables includes "sealing a box" and "sealing a seal", that is, putting twelve or thirteen tables upright, one on top of another, and stacking them up to a height of 12 meters. The three people who play the smiling monk and the lion head and tail climb to the top to perform and do many modeling movements. A well is more difficult, using 32 high stools, two per layer, and 16 layers like a well frame. The smiling monk goes around the edge from the ground to the top of the cloud, and the people who play the lion head and tail climb up from the middle of the "well". The three people play the lion on the top. Martial arts juggling, common ones include marking fire circles, marking knife circles, water and fire meteors, cutting table corners, and kicking backwards, etc., which need to be practiced from a young age. Jianzhong stilt lion lanterns also have "breaking the formation" that tests skills and wisdom. The host deliberately sets some difficult problems to liven up the atmosphere, and the performers need to solve them. Such as carrying firewood (wealth) into the house, bringing in a dog, bringing in a loach, Taigong fishing and other martial arts formations, as well as literary formations such as couplets and writing inscriptions on scenes. Jianzhong stilt lion lanterns have exquisite skills and rich and colorful programs. They are deeply loved by the general public. They are an indispensable traditional folk art program for people to celebrate the Spring Festival and the Lantern Festival. In 2001, they participated in the National Farmers' Games and won the second prize. CCTV Channel 7 made a special report; in 1991, they participated in the city's West China Fair and won the gold medal. They have performed in Chongqing, Daying, Shehong, Pengxi and Zhongjiang many times, and have a high artistic appreciation value. In January 2007, Jianzhong Township was named the provincial "Northern Sichuan Stilt Lion Dance Hometown".
