Xianyang "Golf" Playing "Bang"
Golf has been popular in the West for a long time and is well known, but Xianyang also has its own golf game called "尜", which is little known. The sports competition of playing "尜" is a folk sport, and its specific origin is not yet verified. It is a very popular form of sports entertainment in the area south of the Wei River, north of the Qinling Mountains, from Chang'an in the east to Wugong in the west. In the old society, the working people were generally poor and did not have decent sports equipment, but they also had the need and need for entertainment. In order to pass the leisure time after farming, people began to seek a sports activity that was easy to make and entertaining in constant exploration and practice. "Peach wood mallet, willow wood 尜, not afraid of gods and ghosts", this is a long-standing jingle on the south bank of the Wei River. Peach wood and willow wood are both evil spirits, and "尜" was originally used to ward off evil spirits for children, but as time went on, adults valued its other role, using it for competitive games, and the sports competition game of playing "尜" was born. The name of "尜" comes from the sound made when a stick is hit, which sounds crisp and powerful. It is much larger than the "尜" worn by children. It is generally 34 inches long and 12 inches in diameter. It is shaped like: <>, like a short pencil with both ends sharpened. If it is too short, it is not easy to control, too long, it is not conducive to hitting, too thin, it cannot be hit, and too thick, it cannot hit far. Therefore, the production of "尜" itself is a very delicate job: first find a straight tree trunk of appropriate thickness, peel off the bark, and then chop it into the required length with an axe, and then use a sharp knife to slowly cut the two ends into a symmetrical cone, and add necessary polishing, and then a "尜" is made. The whole process takes about 23 days, and a good "尜" also needs good materials. Although the willow wood 尜 is easy to cut, it is easy to damage because it is too soft. Therefore, the better and easiest material for "尜" is locust wood, which is relatively hard and not easy to deform. A good "locust wood 尜" can be used repeatedly for hundreds of times. At the beginning, "尜" was played with a shoulder pole or a wooden stick used to carry water or firewood. However, as time went by and the competition became more and more regular, people found that the shoulder pole and the wooden stick were too heavy and not conducive to aiming. Gradually, they changed to special wooden boards for hitting. The length of the wooden board varies from person to person. When hitting "尜", there is no limit to the competition venue. First, use the edge of the wooden board to hit any cone part at both ends of the "尜". When the "尜" is hit, use the flat surface of the wooden board to hit the "尜" horizontally to the distance. The farther the better, the better. The one who hits the farthest is the winner. The sport of playing "尜" is very popular among young people because it requires good eye-hand coordination and considerable physical strength, and can cultivate the coordination of the brain and body, the continuity of movements, and the ability to judge in advance. The hitting form is very similar to the current golf in the West, so it is also known as the "golf" of Xianyang. Playing "尜" was most popular in the early 1950s, and the coverage area also spread throughout the towns and villages on the south bank of the Wei River, and also attracted some young people in the city to participate. Basically, people on the south bank of the Wei River will spontaneously play "尜" every day, mostly individual competitions. Whenever there is a competition, the number of participants ranges from 20 to 30 people to hundreds or thousands, and the scene is spectacular. The contestants wear white towels on their heads and flower belts around their waists (the belts are made of coarse cloth about 6 feet long and about 1.6 feet wide, mostly blue, white, and red). They are all lively and energetic. Knowing or not, as long as they have this hobby, they can compete and exchange experiences. Young people can take this opportunity to get to know each other and have a good time. There is a strong sense of customs, folk sentiments, family affection, and human feelings. But in the 1980s and 1990s, with the implementation of the land production responsibility system, farmers had their own one acre and three points of land. Everyone was wholeheartedly engaged in development, and economic conditions gradually improved. Various fitness equipment and entertainment activities also became popular and increased. People gradually lost their previous enthusiasm for this relatively simple and crude entertainment project. This sport is gradually withdrawing from its historical stage. We can only imagine the lively scene of playing "尜" from our parents (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.) (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.)
