Aapravasi Ghat

In the Port Louis district sits a 1,640 square meter site where the modern indentured diaspora began. In 1834, the British government chose the island of Mauritius as the first site for its so-called “great experiment” to replace slaves with “free” labor. Between 1834 and 1920, nearly half a million indentured laborers arrived at Aapravasi Ghat from India to work on Mauritius’ sugar plantations or were transferred to Réunion Island, Australia, South and East Africa, or the Caribbean. The architecture of Aapravasi Ghat is one of the earliest explicit manifestations of what would become a global economic system and one of the largest migrations in history.

Jomon Prehistoric Sites in Northern Japan

The property comprises 17 archaeological sites in the southern part of Hokkaido Island and the northern part of the Tohoku region, with geography ranging from mountainous hills to plain lowlands, from inland bays to lakes and rivers. They provide unique testimony to the development of the pre-agricultural but sedentary Jomon culture and its complex spiritual belief system and rituals over a period of around 10,000 years. It demonstrates the emergence, development, maturity and adaptability of a sedentary hunter-fisher-gatherer society to environmental changes from around 13,000 BC. The expression of Jomon spirituality is present in tangible forms in objects such as lacquerware, clay tablets with footprints, the famous bulging-eyed dolls, and ritual sites including earthworks and large stone circles with a diameter of more than 50 meters. This collection of properties testifies to a rare and very early development of pre-agricultural sedentary life from its emergence to maturity.

Gaya Tombs

This archaeological site of tombs belongs to the Gaya Confederation, which flourished in the southern part of the Korean Peninsula from the 1st to the 6th century AD. The geographical distribution and landscape features of the tombs, the types of burials, and the grave goods explain the unique political system of Gaya. The members of the confederation were politically autonomous and coexisted as equals, while also sharing cultural commonalities. The introduction of new burial forms and the strengthening of the spatial hierarchy of tombs reflect the structural changes that Gaya society underwent during its development.

Dengzhuang Agricultural Science and Technology Demonstration Park

The Dengzhuang Agricultural Science and Technology Demonstration Park in Hengshui City was approved by the former Provincial Science and Technology Commission and started construction in June 1998. It has now invested more than 42 million yuan and built an area of 500 mu. It has built 150 advanced solar greenhouses, two fully intelligent multi-span greenhouses, eight centers (science and technology training center, agricultural information service center, factory-based seedling center, soil fertility testing center, pollution-free vegetable testing center, tissue culture center, beef and dairy cow embryo transplantation center, clean vegetable processing and distribution center) and a modern beef and dairy cow farm. In 2001, Dengzhuangyuan District was recognized as a provincial agricultural science and technology demonstration park, a pollution-free vegetable production base in Hebei Province, and a vegetable production and supply base for Beijing in Hebei Province. In the process of development, the park has established a solid technical support relationship with seven colleges and universities and scientific research institutions such as China Agricultural University and Beijing Vegetable Research Center. A strong agricultural science and technology service system has been established for the majority of farmers, which has played a significant role in accelerating agricultural science and technology progress, promoting agricultural structural adjustment, and increasing farmers' income. Over the past few years, the park has adhered to the principle of "serving as the purpose, relying on science and technology, and being market-oriented", and has continuously increased its investment in science and technology, so that the park has always maintained its vigorous vitality and has become a leader in adjusting the agricultural industrial structure and promoting the development of agricultural industrialization. Party and state leaders Jiang Zemin, Wen Jiabao, Zeng Qinghong, Liu Yunshan, Fei Xiaotong and provincial leaders Bai Keming and Ji Yunshi have visited the park in person and fully affirmed the park's approach to promoting the adjustment of the agricultural industrial structure and increasing farmers' income. On November 4, 2001, General Secretary Jiang Zemin personally inscribed the name of the park.
