Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump
In southwestern Alberta, the remains of marked trails and Native camps, as well as a burial mound containing a large number of bison (American bison) bones, attest to a practice followed by Native Americans of the North American Plains for nearly 6,000 years. They used their extensive knowledge of the terrain and bison behavior to chase their prey to the edge of a cliff, then kill them; the carcasses were then dismembered beneath their camp.
Río Plátano Biosphere Reserve
Located in the basin of the Platano River, the reserve is one of the few remaining tropical rainforest sites in Central America, with a rich diversity of plants and wildlife. More than 2,000 indigenous peoples maintain their traditional way of life in a mountainous landscape that stretches to the Caribbean coast.
Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park
The park, formerly known as Uluru (Ayers Rock - Mount Olgas) National Park, features spectacular geological formations that dominate the vast red sandy plains of central Australia. Uluru is a huge monolith and Kata Tjuta is a rock dome located west of Uluru that formed part of the traditional belief system of one of the oldest human societies in the world. The traditional owners of Uluru-Kata Tjuta are the Anangu Aboriginal people.
