Ancient Villages in Southern Anhui – Xidi and Hongcun
The two traditional villages of Xidi and Hongcun have largely preserved the appearance of non-urban settlements that have basically disappeared or been transformed in the last century. Their street planning, architecture and decoration, as well as the combination of houses and perfect water systems are all unique examples that still exist.
Pu'er Jingmai Mountain Ancient Tea Forest Cultural Landscape
Located in Jingmai Mountain, Yunnan, China, this cultural landscape was cultivated over a thousand years by the local Bulang and Dai people following practices that began in the 10th century. This is a tea town with many traditional villages surrounded by forests and tea gardens, nestled among the ancient tea trees. The traditional understory cultivation of ancient tea trees is in response to the characteristics of the mountain ecosystem and subtropical monsoon climate, and is combined with a management system maintained by the local community. People believe in the "Ancestor of Tea", they believe that tea trees and nature are spiritual, and the traditional rituals and festivals here are closely related to this belief.
Kuldiga Old Town
Kuldīga, located in western Latvia, is a well-preserved example of a traditional town. In the 16th-18th centuries, it developed from a small medieval village into an important administrative center of the Principality of Courland and Semigallia. The urban structure of Kuldīga has largely preserved the street layout of the time, and the houses are a mixture of traditional log buildings and other styles influenced by foreign influences, reflecting the rich exchange between local craftsmen and traveling artisans along the Baltic coast. The architectural influences and craft traditions introduced during the principality period continued until the 19th century.
Old Town of Ghadamès
Ghadames, known as the "Pearl of the Desert", is located in an oasis. It is one of the oldest pre-Saharan cities and an outstanding example of a traditional settlement. Its residential architecture is characterized by a vertical division of functions: the ground floor is used for storage; another floor is the family residence, with overhanging covered alleys forming an almost underground network of passages; the top floor is an open-air terrace for women.

Holoko is an outstanding example of a carefully preserved traditional settlement. Developed mainly in the 17th and 18th centuries, the village is a vivid example of rural life before the agricultural revolution of the 20th century.
Ancient City of Ping Yao
Pingyao is a well-preserved traditional Han Chinese city that was founded in the 14th century. Its urban structure shows the evolution of ancient Chinese architectural style and town planning over five centuries. Particularly interesting are the magnificent buildings associated with the city of Pingyao. Pingyao was a major center for banking throughout China in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Tianjin Old City Museum
Tianjin Old City Museum is located in the Xu Family Courtyard on Dongmenli Street in the Old City. It was originally the home of Xu Pu'an, the comprador of the British Mercantile Bank. It was built during the Republic of China and has a construction area of 2,400 square meters. The three-courtyard west wing of this traditional residence has been restored as the living room of the old Tianjin people, recreating the living scenes of the people living in the old city. It adopts the Chinese architectural style, with blue bricks and hard roofs. The overall building faces north and south, with Qianzhai Xunmen. The central axis consists of three courtyards, and there are arrow paths on the east and west sides. Its architectural carvings are elegant and exquisite. It is the only well-preserved typical traditional residence with three courtyards and four courtyards in Tianjin city. It now covers an area of 1,381 square meters and a construction area of 711 square meters. When the Old City began large-scale urban transformation, Mr. Feng Jicai and many experts and scholars went deep into the Old City several times to conduct on-site cultural relics inspections, and proposed to transform the Xu Family Courtyard into China's first donated museum-Tianjin Old City Museum.
