Qutb Minar and its Monuments, Delhi
Built in the early 13th century, a few kilometers south of Delhi, the Qutb Minar is made of red sandstone, 72.5 meters high, 2.75 meters in diameter at the top and 14.32 meters in diameter at the base. It is conical in shape, with alternating angular and circular grooves. The archaeological area surrounding the tower contains funerary buildings, especially the magnificent Alai-Darwaza Gate, a masterpiece of Indian Muslim art (built in 1311), and two mosques, including the Quwwatu'l-Islam Mosque, the oldest mosque in northern India, with about 20 Brahmin temples.

Samarkand was founded in the 7th century BC under the name Afrasiab and developed most rapidly during the Timurid period in the 14th and 15th centuries. Major monuments include the Registan Mosque and Madrasa, the Bibi Khanym Mosque, the Shahi Zinda and Gur Amir complexes, and the Ulugh Beg Observatory.
