"March 3" is the traditional "outing festival" of the Chinese nation and also a traditional festival of the She ethnic group. In the She village of Ningde, "March 3" is also known as the "Black Rice Festival" and "Singing Festival". On this day every year, the She people gather in groups of three or five to celebrate the festival in a unique way: holding a March 3 plate singing party, eating black rice, inviting She witches to perform witch dances, She traditional dances, Jindouyang martial arts competitions, drinking pagoda tea, etc. Every year on "March 3", She men and women who return from outings must pick a plant called "Nianmiwu" (Wunian), mash it and boil it into soup, use it to soak glutinous rice, and steam it into "black rice" for consumption. There are many legends about the origin of black rice in the She family, all of which are related to the hero of the She ethnic group, Lei Wanxing. And eating black rice on "March 3" is to commemorate this hero. Legend has it that during the Tang Dynasty, the She hero Lei Wanxing led the She people to fight against the encirclement and suppression of the government troops. When the food was exhausted, they ate the fruit of the glutinous rice tree to satisfy their hunger. The She people relied on it to preserve their physical strength and finally won the victory. Later, on March 3rd of the year, Lei Wanxing remembered to eat the glutinous rice tree fruit, but the glutinous rice tree had not yet borne fruit, so the She people picked its leaves and made black rice to eat. This became a custom, and black rice must be eaten on March 3rd every year. Therefore, the She people also called March 3rd the "Black Rice Festival". The March 3rd Black Rice Festival continues to this day. The She people eat black rice and hold singing parties all night long. The lunar March 3rd is a traditional singing festival of great significance to the majority of Fu'an She people. On that day, the She people in the surrounding villages will gather in groups of three or five to sing to each other and celebrate their festival in their unique way. Some stopped each other halfway and sang "Road Blocking Love Song". When guests come to their homes, the She people of Xitaben Village will sing the "Guest Welcoming Song". Especially the antiphonal singing of young men and women is very exciting, and the repertoires they sing cover a wide range of songs, including "Ancestor Song", "Pan Bo Song", "Eighteen Emperors", etc., which are called "Bi Du Cai", as well as novel songs such as "Zhong Jingqi and Lei Wanchun", "Lan Dianyu", "The Story of the Wet Nurse", and "Zhong Liangbi".
