Zhan Family Ancestor Worship Customs

Hubei
🎧  Listen to Introduction

The Zhan Family's ancestor worship customs inherit the traditional etiquette culture of Confucianism and have been passed down for more than a hundred years. In 2009, it was included in the second batch of Huangshi City's intangible cultural heritage list. The ancestor worship procedure is divided into four chapters: the inspection feast, the first offering, the second offering, and the third offering. There are a total of 49 poems, songs, and prayers in the sacrifice. Confucius said: "It starts with poetry, stands on etiquette, and is completed by music." The Zhan Family's Ancestor Worship Customs combines etiquette, poetry, and music to make the ancestor worship ceremony vivid, interesting, and enjoyable. Using music to chant poetry, the music is beautiful; using poetry to express emotions, people are educated in the moral thoughts of being steadfast, gentle, and "being filial and respectful" and "following etiquette."
