Zhejiang
🎧  Listen to Introduction

Jiuquhongmei black tea originated from Wuyishan Oolong tea in Fujian. It was introduced to Hangzhou in the middle and late Qing Dynasty. After generations of tea farmers cultivated and improved it into black tea, and formed a unique production technique. It is the only black tea among the famous teas in Zhejiang Province. It is praised by tea experts as "a little red in the green" of Zhejiang tea area. This tea won the gold medal at the Panama International Food Expo in 1886. In long-term practice, Jiuquhongmei has formed its own unique picking and processing techniques, which fully demonstrates the wisdom of tea farmers and rich cultural connotations. "Jiuquhongmei" has been deeply connected with tea culture since its formation. It is said that Mr. Li Shutong once used the sentence "agate color in the white jade cup, plum blossom fragrance under the red lips and tongue" to describe the charm of "Nine-bend Red Plum"; there is a separate set of "Nine-bend Red Plum" tea ceremony and tea sets in the popular Hangzhou tea art; the famous "West Lake Tea Banquet" has a total of four teas (Longjing tea, Dahongpao, Nine-bend Red Plum, Pu'er tea), from green tea to semi-fermented tea to black tea, Nine-bend Red Plum is listed as the first black tea. The origin of Nine-bend Red Plum is mainly concentrated in the Lingshan Scenic Area (Lingshan, Shuangling, Hubu) area of Shuangpu Town, West Lake District. Later, the production area expanded to Zhoufu, Xiayang, and Tongjian Lake. The current tea planting area is more than 1,500 acres. However, due to many reasons, Nine-bend Red Plum is now in an endangered state. Therefore, the inheritance and protection of the "Nine-bend Red Plum" tea picking, production and tea ceremony skills are urgent.
