Baotan was once a prosperous ancient town and an important river port connecting Taizhou to the inland. In the course of historical changes, a large number of historical sites have been left here, among which the streets and residential buildings are the most distinctive, and the historical sites of commercial civilization in the Ming and Qing Dynasties are relatively intact. The "Dragon-shaped" ancient street in Baotan Ancient Town is a three-li-long commercial street paved with cobblestones. The entire ancient street extends in the shape of a dragon, with the west as the dragon head, the east as the dragon tail, and the middle section curved into the dragon body. The dragon head is right at the confluence of the Five Rivers. The streams are like a silk thread, and the sparkling waves and mist are like a soaring dragon in the clouds. At the dragon's tail, there are rows of flying eaves, horse head walls, and brick archways, especially the magnificent brick archway that is 3.5 meters high and 8 meters wide. The exquisite sculptures of dragons and phoenixes, unicorns, cranes and deer praying for blessings, and flowers and figures on the door cover add a sense of spirit and dynamism to the dragon's tail. In addition, the yellow and shiny pebbles are arranged in a regular manner, making the ancient street look like a giant dragon with dazzling scales and winding away. As for how the dragon-shaped ancient street was formed, who designed it, and who initiated it, it is still a mystery. Even the oldest people on the ancient street can only explain it with "probably" or "maybe". In comparison, the theory of terrain and feng shui is the most credible. Because Pantan is a land and water transit port for commerce, seeking prosperity of both people and wealth and smooth shipping is the ultimate goal of merchants and officials. According to the theory of Yin-Yang Fengshui, the south of the mountain is Yang and the south of the water is Yin, and Pantan is located in the south of Yong'an River, which is actually a "Yin" land. Therefore, if you want to achieve "great victory", you must combine Yin with Yang. Therefore, Pantan was paved with an extremely Yang Dragon Street, and then matched with the supreme Nine Bends, so as to achieve the harmony of Yin and Yang, prosperity of both people and wealth, and stand in an invincible position.
