The Legend of Huangbo Mountain
Huangbo Mountain was originally named Jiufeng. It is located in Huanggang Township, Yifeng. There were Indian monks practicing here. During the Kaicheng period of the Tang Dynasty, the eminent monk Xiyun visited famous teachers and stayed at Jiufeng. He preached the essence of direct transmission and founded the new purpose of Zen. His disciple Yixuan, after practicing Zen for many years with Huangbo, went to Linji Temple in Zhengding, Hebei, expounded Xiyun's purpose, and co-founded Linji Sect, one of the five branches of Buddhist Zen, with Xiyun. Xiyun was from Fuqing County, Fujian Province. In order to celebrate Huangbo Mountain in his hometown, he changed Jiufeng to Huangbo Mountain, and the original Buddhist temple was also renamed Huangbo Temple. Later, there was a saying of "Two Huangbos in the World". The Linji Sect style and related legends are spread all over the world. The legends that are widely circulated in our county include "The Origin of Huangbo Mountain", "The Origin of the Yellow Dog Tower", "The Legend of the Oil and Salt Basin", "The Legend of the Oil Stone Tower", "The Legend of the Tiger Run Spring", "The Legend of the Wooden Fish Stone", "The Legend of the Nine Loaches Falling into the Lake", etc. (No pictures available, please provide them.)
