Yixing Dragon Kiln Firing Techniques Dragon kiln is a form of ancient kiln in my country, named after its shape like a dragon. Dragon kilns are generally built on the hillside and on flat ground with firewood and pine branches as fuel. Dragon kilns are divided into three parts: kiln head, kiln body and kiln tail. The kiln body is long and narrow, with an angle of 10-20 degrees to the flat ground. The main body is cylindrical, and "scale eye holes" are set on both sides of the kiln cavity to throw pine branches and other fuels. The dragon kiln firing technique includes eight processes: making and drying the blanks, offering sacrifices, cleaning the kiln, loading the kiln, preheating, firing the kiln, cooling the kiln and opening the kiln. The kiln workers control the temperature and firing time by visually observing the fire color in the kiln and their experience. Qianshu Dragon Kiln, built in the Ming Dynasty, is the only ancient dragon kiln in Yixing that is still firing ceramics in the traditional way, and has been listed as a national cultural relic protection unit. At present, there is a representative inheritor of Yixing Dragon Kiln Firing Technique, who is at the Jiangsu provincial level.
