🎧  Listen to Introduction

Wujian Lianxiang Flower Drum, a traditional dance item in the first batch of representative items of municipal intangible cultural heritage. Jiangdu Wujian Lianxiang Flower Drum originated from Fengyang, Anhui Province in the Ming Dynasty and was later passed down to Wujian. It later became the main form of cultural activities for local farmers, taking root and multiplying, and being passed down from generation to generation. The traditional Wujian Lianxiang Flower Drum has three obvious characteristics: First, it uses Lianxiang (locally known as Qianchuanzi and Bawangbian) as the main prop, and performs while marching, without being restricted by the venue; second, it integrates singing, dancing, acrobatics, and folk art. In addition to the village girl and the teenager, a "three-faced face" is added to the characters, and the performance is particularly humorous and interesting, which is unique among the popular Lianxiang Flower Drums in various places; third, the singing music comes from folk songs, and the lyrics can be improvised, some long and some short. The long ones have storylines and can be sung for several days, which is similar to the art of storytelling. Although Wujian Lianxiang Flower Drum has been sorted out and innovated, it still retains a strong local flavor. In 1984, Wujian Lianxiang Flower Drum was included in the "Collection of Chinese National Folk Dances". (No pictures available, please provide them.) (No pictures available, please provide them.)
