Folk Wood Art
Folk wood art, a traditional art project in the fourth batch of representative projects of municipal intangible cultural heritage. Chinese wood carving art has a long history, with many schools and a long history, and is spread all over the country. As early as the middle and late Ming Dynasty, wood carving emerged among the people of Nanjing. In the Qing Dynasty, the level of wood carving in Suzhou and Nanjing was very high. Nanjing wood carving is a famous specialty and was once known as the "three treasures" of Nanjing's arts and crafts industry (brocade, paper cutting and wood carving). Nanjing wood carving is divided into antique wood carving, Zhougang furniture wood carving and Nanjing Chang's wood carving. Nanjing Chang's wood carving is based on the tradition of inheriting the long history of wood carving in my country, drawing on the experience of wood carving predecessors from all generations, and boldly innovating and keeping pace with the times. In the 1920s, Zhang Zhulin, a carver, followed the master of ancient building wood carving in the late Qing Dynasty to learn traditional wood carving skills. Mr. Chang Deming has been learning traditional wood carving skills from his masters Zhang Zhulin and Zhu Lianshu since he was a child. In the early 1960s, Mr. Chang Deming came to Jiangsu to make a living to support his family. He made carved furniture for people in Shanghai, Suzhou and Nanjing. As his life improved, Mr. Chang Deming, who was smart and studious since childhood, was no longer satisfied with traditional wood carving skills. Instead, he innovated a set of on-site rapid portrait carving methods based on traditional wood carving skills. Nanjing Chang's wood carving is different from other types of wood carving and is a rising star in the wood carving industry. Nanjing Chang's wood carving is exquisitely crafted with a high level of craftsmanship and craft characteristics. The traditional wood carvings created include flowers, birds and animals, landscapes, ladies, religion, etc. The works are exquisitely conceived, profound in connotation and original. The innovative on-site rapid portrait carving method based on the inheritance of traditional wood carving is characterized by the ability to quickly carve wood carving portraits for customers on site. The carving process is carried out according to the knife skills and techniques of Chang's statue method. Instead of drawing, you can use a knife instead of a pen directly on the wood and carve it out on the wood by looking at the customer's appearance. Not only are the carved works static works of art, but the whole process of carving is also a dynamic artistic creation display. The only tools you need are a flat knife and a wooden beating stick, and the work can be completed on a homemade workbench. It only takes thirty minutes to complete, making the time-consuming and laborious wood carving as quick as a sketch and highly ornamental and interactive. The carved portrait wood carvings can fully express the character's personality and facial features, and are vivid and lifelike. Nanjing Chang's wood carvings are mainly carved and sold in the Confucius Temple area of Qinhuai District, Nanjing. Nanjing Chang's wood carvings are a precious heritage of my country's folk art treasure house. In order to inherit and develop it, various techniques of innovating wood carving tools have been tried, and efforts have been made to give it new ideological content in terms of subject matter so that it has a strong sense of the times and is more accepted and recognized by the public!
