Traditional cotton textile techniques
The traditional hand-woven cotton textile skills of the Uygur ethnic group in Kashgar County, Xinjiang have a broad mass base, and its ancient production methods are still preserved. The process is in the order of cotton spinning, spinning, turning, winding, warp, printing, silk weaving, and weaving. In the 19th century, there were professional households in every village of the traditional hand-woven textile skills of the Uygur ethnic group in Kashgar County, and the cotton cloth produced was deeply loved by the masses. As an important part of the traditional culture of Xinjiang, the traditional hand-woven textile skills reflect and express the common thinking habits and living customs of the northwestern ethnic groups, regulate people's lifestyles, and have important cultural and practical values. After the 1990s, with the acceleration of the industrialization process, various new clothing fabrics flooded into the market, and modern textiles replaced hand-woven fabrics, which had a great impact on the traditional hand-woven textile skills of the Uygur ethnic group, resulting in a decrease in the market demand for hand-woven fabrics. Hand-woven textile artists have transformed and changed their businesses, and the number of professional hand-woven fabric households has dropped sharply to more than ten households at present. The average age of the existing old weavers is nearly 60 years old, and they are gradually unable to do the weaving work. Young people are unwilling to inherit the traditional hand-weaving skills. The traditional hand-weaving skills of the Uyghur people are on the verge of extinction and urgently need attention. (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.) (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.)
