The dance props of Zhanjiang Grass Dragon Dance are made of straw, fishing nets, bamboo strips and other materials. The dance is characterized by its fierceness. Through twisting, turning, piercing and leaping, it shows the spirit of the fishermen on the island who are brave enough to move forward in the wind and waves. The Grass Dragon Dance has a long history. After the reform and opening up, it has gradually become an important folk activity during the annual Lantern Festival. The Tiaoshun Grass Dragon Dance has a history of more than 500 years. The grass dragon is made of straw, fishing nets, bamboo strips and other materials. Through twisting, turning, piercing and leaping, the grass dragon dance shows the spirit of the fishermen on the island fighting against the sea. Due to various factors, the Tiaoshun Grass Dragon Dance has withdrawn from people's sight. By 2005, Huang Chebing, an old man in Tiaoshun, relied on his memory to weave 4 grass dragons again and debuted at the first Farmers' Cultural Festival held in Tiaoshun. Since the annual festival in 2006, the Tiaoshun Grass Dragon has absorbed the routines of the competitive dragon and made the grass dragon dance vivid. The characteristic dragon dance competitive routines are extremely rare in the country. It is understood that the grass dragon is a dance prop made of straw, fishing nets, bamboo strips and other materials. The grass dragon dance shows the spirit of the fishermen on the island fighting against the sea through twisting, turning, wearing and leaping. It has a history of more than 500 years, but in the decades after liberation, it was once "abandoned" due to historical reasons. In 2005, Huang Chebing, an old man from Tiaoshun Island, wove four grass dragons again based on his childhood memories, and appeared at the first Farmers' Cultural Festival with the theme of "Civilization, Harmony and Development" held in Tiaoshun. It also won the silver medal at the first "Red Soil Culture and Art Festival" in Zhanjiang, attracting widespread attention from domestic media such as CCTV, Guangdong TV and China News Network. Tiaoshun Island took this great opportunity to take the "grass dragon dance" as the leader, vigorously explore, protect and promote the island's Mazu culture, stone dog culture and ancient architectural culture, dance a new trend of Tiaoshun's traditional culture, and use it to promote the construction of an ecological civilization village. In recent years, Tiaoshun grass dragons have often participated in various performances and competitions and are deeply loved by the masses. According to the old people in the village, there is a history of dragon dancing in Wenzhangwan Village. Some are made with langgu and some are made with straw. The langgu dragons we see today are all made with fresh materials. Langgu is distributed everywhere in the vast countryside of Zhanjiang. In the past, its leaves were often used to wrap rice dumplings, but using it to make dragon dances is unique to Wenzhangwan Village.
