The Sha Tau Kok Fish Lantern Dance originated in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties and was popular in Sha Tau Kok, Yantian and the New Territories of Hong Kong. It is a must-have for fishermen during festivals and worshipping ancestors. The fish lanterns are exquisitely made of bamboo strips tied into the shape of fish, paper-painted and painted, and then coated with tung oil.
