Heshan lion dance is distributed in Shaping, Gulao, Longkou, Yayao, Taoyuan, Hecheng, Gonghe and other places, as well as Singapore and Southeast Asia, which are famous for lion dance. Heshan lion dance was created by Feng Gengchang, who was born in Dalang Village, Yuekuang, Shaping, Heshan in 1852. Feng Gengchang learned martial arts from his father, who was a lay disciple of Shaolin, since he was a child, and laid a solid foundation of martial arts. Later, he learned martial arts and lion dance from Feng Liaoxing, a fellow villager who opened a medical clinic and a martial arts hall in Foshan. He was better than his father and founded the Heshan School of Lion Dance, which became the two major schools of lion dance in the south together with Foshan Lion Dance. Feng Gengchang and his fellow apprentice Hu Pei learned the lion-shaped cat steps from the cat's playfulness, playing, and catching behaviors, and integrated the cat's movements with the lion's personality. The lion form is divided into eight types: "happy, angry, frightened, happy, suspicious, drunk, sleeping, and awake", and "suspicious when seeing things, happy when seeing green, frightened when seeing red, biting when seeing piles, pulling out when seeing wood, playing when seeing water, and exploring when seeing steps and ladders, repeatedly shrinking, advancing and retreating, and only stepping on the steps after resolving doubts". The cat steps are divided into eight types: catching mice, playing, catching birds, jumping high, crouching low, jumping, and rolling. Feng Gengchang's lion dance is a very particular horse step. Feng Gengchang also improved the Foshan lion form to be lighter and more powerful, making the lion dance more flexible and more superb. He also created a set of majestic, pleasant and rhythmic "Seven Star Drum" method. Feng Gengchang is a master of lion dance, with profound martial arts, vivid and touching routine performances, and various difficult Caiqing, so he has won the reputation of "Guangdong Lion King". Feng Gengchang's Heshan lion dance is inherited in Heshan and brought to Singapore by Heshan people. In Heshan, for example, the Xincun Lion Dance Team in Yuetang Village, Feng Gengchang's hometown, fully demonstrates the fierce, lively and lovely characteristics of lions. In the 1980s, they won the championship in the Heshan Lion Dance Competition and are the best of traditional southern lion dance. The Jiangxia Lion Dance Troupe formed by Jiangxia Hotel, based on Feng Gengchang's lion dance skills, has also practiced high-pole performances in recent years. In the 5th China International Lion Dance Invitational Competition held in Xiamen, Fujian, they won the first place in the southern lion dance. The Luojiang Lion Dance Team has been practicing traditional lion dance, and later they also practiced high-pole lion dance. They participated in the Jiangmen Lion King Competition and took the lead and became the "Five District Lion King". Heshan lion art flourished in Singapore, the Lion City, and won the championship many times, and was crowned the "King of Lion Kings". The only lion head can be embroidered with the word "king". The unique Heshan lion art has both the might of a lion and the liveliness of a cat. It is very skillful and ornamental, and has great value for inheritance and protection.
