The Legend of Taishan Stone
Legend of Taishan Shi Gan Dang In China, there are many places where stones, stone tablets or stone men with the words "Taishan Shi Gan Dang" are placed on roads, bridges or walls of houses to avoid evil spirits and suppress disasters. Legend has it that there lived a young man named Shi Gan Dang in a village at the foot of Taishan. He was very brave, had great martial arts skills, was not afraid of anything, and was good at fighting for justice. He was very famous in the Taishan area. There is a Dawenkou Town about 50 or 60 miles south of Tai'an. One year, the daughter of a Zhang family in the town was haunted by a demon. She was crazy all day long, with a pale face and thin muscles. She did not see any improvement after seeking medical treatment from many places. Some people say that if you are haunted by demons, you can't cure it by taking medicine alone. You should drive away the demons. I heard that there is a very brave Shi Gan Dang on Taishan. Why not find him to think of a solution? The girl's parents prepared a carriage and went to Taishan to find Shi Gan Dang. Shi Gan Dang came as soon as he was invited. He said, "This is easy. Find twelve boys and twelve girls. Each boy plays a drum, and each girl plays a gong. Prepare a basin of sesame oil, roll cotton into a thick wick, and a pot and a chair. As long as these things are ready, I will be able to drive away the monster." As soon as it got dark, he put the wick in the basin of sesame oil, lit the oil lamp, covered the basin with the pot, sat next to it, and lifted the edge of the pot with his feet. In this way, even though the lamp was lit, the light could not be seen from a distance. It was dark, and with a whistling wind, the monster broke into the door. Shi Gandang kicked the pot away, and the oil lamp immediately emitted a dazzling light. Twelve pairs of boys and girls beat the gongs and drums together. The monster was startled and quickly dodged and fled to the south. The monster ran to Fujian, and some people in Fujian were haunted by the monster again and became seriously ill. The goblin once said, "I am not afraid of the sky or the earth, but I am afraid of the stone dang on Mount Tai." So people invited the stone dang to Fujian after hearing about it. When the goblin heard that the stone dang had arrived, he quietly slipped away. He fled to the northeast again, and people invited the stone dang to the northeast again. The stone dang thought, "I chased it once, and it fled to another place. The country is so big, how can I run here? Yes, there are many stones on Mount Tai. I asked the stonemason to carve my hometown and name on the stone - Taishan stone dang. If there is a demonic wind in someone's house, put this stone outside the door of that house, and the monster will not dare to go in." Sure enough, the goblin did not approach when he saw this. From then on, people used the stone engraved with "Taishan stone dang" to protect the house and ward off evil spirits, and it has been passed down to this day.
