Dayu led the people to control floods in Yucheng, and left many relics of water control in Yucheng. For thousands of years, many folk legends and myths have been circulated around Dayu's control of floods and Yuwang Pavilion, such as "Dayu's arrow settled the sea border", "the origin of Yuxi City", "Zeng Jiugao rebuilt Yuwang Pavilion", etc. These stories and legends reflect the respect and love of the people of Yucheng for Dayu. Yucheng belongs to Dezhou City, located 120 miles northwest of Jinan City and 130 miles southeast of Dezhou City. It borders Qihe, Linyi, Lingxian, Pingyuan and Gaotang counties respectively, and is located on the bank of the canal in the lower reaches of the Yellow River. It has a long history and splendid culture. There are 10 Longshan culture sites, 2 Shang and Zhou sites, and a large number of Han tombs and ancient monuments. In 2004, the "First National Yucheng Dayu Culture Seminar" was held in Yucheng. The 72 experts and scholars attending the meeting reached a consensus that Yucheng was the place where Dayu's water control "directed the river into the sea" was successful. During the Yao and Shun period, floods were rampant and flooded the world. Gun was ordered to control the flood, but he failed to control the flood by blocking the river but not draining it. He was executed by Emperor Shun. Then, Gun's son Yu was appointed to inherit his father's business and continue to control the flood. Yu lived outside for thirteen years and passed by his home three times without entering. He eliminated the flood and the people lived and worked in peace and contentment. Many relics left by Dayu in Yucheng, such as the old city of Yuxi, Yuji Pavilion, Tuhai River, Yudi, Juqiu Mountain, etc., have become the precious spiritual wealth of the people of Yucheng. Dayu's spirit includes: the spirit of starting from reality and seeking truth from facts; the spirit of hard work and innovation; the spirit of diligence and dedication to the people. The legends and stories of Dayu's flood control are also reflected in its unique literary value. These folk oral literatures are not only the hymns of the working people to the heroes in their hearts, but also reflect their longings and wishes. They are not only the records of their struggles, but also the textbooks of life. They are the spiritual driving force for people to forge ahead, and have a wide social impact and far-reaching historical significance. (No pictures available, please provide them.)
