The microclimate in the area is suitable for producing high-quality tea, and the Tongcheng Xiaohua produced here is well-known. Tongcheng has a long history of tea planting. According to historical records, the Grand Marshal Lushan Gong (Sun Jin) of the Ming Dynasty obtained exotic tea seeds during his official travels and planted them in the Jiaoyuan of Longmian Mountain. As a result, Jiaoyuan tea, together with Guzhu and Mengding, became a "tribute" and was called Jiaoyuan tea. Because it looks like a newly opened flower after brewing, it is also called "Tongcheng Xiaohua". Tongcheng Xiaohua is also known as Xiaolanhua tea, which belongs to the Anhui broccoli tea series. Generally, it is harvested before the Grain Rain, and the buds and leaves with one bud, two or three leaves, fat, uniform, and hairy are selected. They are refined through processes such as spreading, killing green, sorting, initial baking, cooling, re-baking, and picking. Every 500 grams of finished tea has 8,000 to 10,000 buds. The finished tea has a stretched appearance, complete buds and leaves, and looks like an orchid. The color is emerald green, the soup is clear, the aroma is fresh and lasting, with the fragrance of orchids, and the taste is mellow, fresh and sweet. The products are divided into special grade, first grade, second grade, and third grade. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, "Tongcheng Xiaohua" was repeatedly named as a tribute to the imperial court. In 1983, it won the honorary certificate of the Ministry of Commerce at the National Export Commodities Exhibition. In 1986, it was rated as a high-quality famous tea in Anhui Province.
